New SOPs for Mumbai societies: No direct access to domestic help, delivery persons

Mumbai: Amid an upsurge in the number of coronavirus cases in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued fresh Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for housing societies in Mumbai.

As per the new guidelines, each and every person in the society premises must wear masks while stepping outside the confines of their homes. Two or more people communicating with each other should maintain a distance of at least 6 feet between them.

“Everyone should use sanitisers, masks and gloves while going out. It should be maintained that children, senior citizens are not going out of the house for no reason,” the order stated.

The civic body also said that outsiders such as domestic help, newspaper and milk vendors, delivery persons and others should not be given direct access to the society premises. “Ensure that temperature check, oxygen test, hand washing/sanitising facilities, etc are available for outsiders, helpers, drivers, garbage collectors and cleaners,” the notification read.

BMC also suggested that tissues or hand gloves be kept near the elevators and that people do not press the buttons with their bare hands. “Carefully dispose of such pieces of paper immediately after use,” it said.

It further said vehicles should be disinfected before leaving society. Important contact numbers like local municipal health centres, hospital, departmental control room should be displayed prominently in the society premises.

Mumbai reported 10,030 new cases on Tuesday, the second-highest daily spike in the city since the pandemic began. Also, as many as 31 persons succumbed to the virus — the highest since October 2020.
